Unless you live under a rock you will have seen that Bruce/Caitlyn Jenner broke the Internet yesterday. Her Vanity Fair cover was released via Twitter and within just 2.5 seconds #CallMeCaitlyn was trending worldwide. The power of social media is astounding.
What Bruce/Caitlyn has done is incredible in terms of giving this group of people a voice and the confidence to make the changes that will give them happiness. I cannot even begin to understand what people who go through this experience are dealing with, and I won't pretend to understand. But what really blew me away and what I could relate to was the reaction of people to the image.
All over the globe, people were supporting this amazing and brave transformation, and it warmed my heart to see it. I'm sure there were some narrow-minded, negative people out there, but I'm not going to spend my time searching for those tweets. What I saw was incredible acceptance and this made me proud of us as humans.
Whatever you think of the Kardashians, you have to admire their support of their Dad. I think Bruce has just been along for the ride, rather than instrumental in creating the Kardashian empire - that's Momma Kris. And some people may criticise to say why isn't he going through this in private, why make it so public? To make money? I honestly don't think so. He's in the media spotlight and images would have been leaked, the paps would have hounded him even more, and this way he gets to control what is out there. And as I said earlier, to give people experiencing the same thing a voice and hope that they can make these brave choices too.
With all the negativity and bad news we see constantly throughout the world, the #CallMeCaitlyn reaction yesterday was a reflection of how as a race we have come so far. Regardless of race, class, gender, nationality, sexuality - I saw all walks of life applauding Caitlyn.
The whole thing really is truly beautiful.
