Top Three AW14 Beauty Trends

I hate that it's got a bit chilly and I'm contemplating putting the heating on in August. On the other hand, I love the thought of a new season of beauty trends.
The number one trend from what I can see from the catwalks is blue eye make-up. Whether this is eyeliner or eyeshadow, blue is the way forward.
All shades, all intensities. I'm going to start with blue eyeliner and then might work my way up to intense blue eyeshadow!
Next up - braids. And not just the fishtail plait, all braids in all styles are going to be huge for AW14.
Not so sure about the cornrows! But I love the messy side plait and plaited bun. Need to get practising!
Finally, flawless skin. Burberry is always the show most hotly-anticipated. This season, glowing skin and barely there make-up was essential. And it wasn't just Burberry, many other leading shows displayed this look. You woke up like this...

Which is your favourite AW14 trend?

SBC Vitamin ACE Day and Night Cream

New brand alert! I love discovering new beauty brands, don't you?
SBC (Simply Beautiful Collection) is available on QVC and I first saw them at their press day a few months ago, with their Vitamin collection being their latest. The Day and Night Cream is packed full of ingredients your skin will love.
It contains little beads of the vitamins to burst onto your skin 'fresh' and deliver potent results straight onto your skin. These moisturise, firm and brighten.
It also contains Tomato, Olive and Fennel oils. Sounds like a nice salad. But these are also powerful superfoods for the skin to combat signs of ageing. Used morning and night (so no need for two moisturisers), I love the texture of this - it feels like it is doing your skin the world of good.
I'm really impressed with this and how many great ingredients it contains for just £29. It's really affordable.
It comes in a 100g jar which will last a loooong time! Check it out and the rest of their products here

Footner Daily Repair Cream

If you've read my blog before, you'll know how much of a fan I am of the Footner Exfoliating Socks. If you want a quick and effective way of getting rid of hard skin on your feet, you can't go wrong with these.
Now Footner have extended their range with a rich foot cream to keep your feet looking their best for as long as possible.
The new Daily Repair Cream promises to give you results within three days of using it morning and night. Because I only recently used their socks my hard skin wasn't so bad so I tended to use these after a shower when my feet feel particularly dry.
Thick enough to be doing something yet it sinks in quick enough so you don't slip around the floor!
It's nothing fancy, it doesn't have a scent, it just does what it says on the tin.

My Top Skin Tips

Recently quite a few people have commented on my skin. Whilst being slightly embarrassing, it is also really flattering. So I thought I would share my top tips for having the best skin possible. I obviously don't stick to just one product as I'm always trying new things, but I must be doing something right. I guess I have good habits and some knowledge of ingredients. So here goes...
  • Always, always, ALWAYS take your make-up off! This is something I've always stuck to, even when I've been exhausted or really drunk, I've taken the couple of minutes to remove any make-up and dirt. Let your skin breathe and recover overnight.

  • Having said that, I used to always use face wipes to remove make-up at the end of the day which is obviously super speedy but quite a bad way to do it. Since discovering Bioderma I haven't looked back. Micellar waters are just as quick as facewipes but gentler. I don't advocate Bioderma in particular, there are lots of micellar waters out there so give them a go.

  • Use a toner. Again, this is quite a new thing for me. I used toner back in the 90s and the alcohol content just dried out my skin so badly, I had a decade of shunning it. Then I was encouraged to try the newest wave of toners which are a lot kinder to the skin, yet bring the skin to the correct pH balance to allow the serum, etc you put on afterwards to work as effectively as possible. We spend so much on serums, moisturisers, etc and if you don't use a toner they don't give you the best results possible as they are not working at the pH of the skin they are supposed to be in. It makes sense.

  • Apply eye cream on your eyelids and out towards your hairline, as well as underneath your eyes. I remember reading in a magazine years ago how one woman's beauty regret was not applying her eye cream on her eyelids. This part of the face can sag from quite an early age so it makes sense to apply it here. Similarly, make sure you put some outwards where crows feet start to show. Those first little lines are quite traumatic to see!

  • Layer serums. My skin has a lot of needs. It's dry, sensitive, ageing, pigmented, dull - the list goes on. I have yet to find just one serum that will do it all. So I use two serums at once. One for the dryness and dullness and one for anti-ageing - double whammy!

  • Facial oils are wondrous but don't apply too much. Even if you have oily skin, use facial oils. They are packed full of goodness for the skin. However, when I first used one I used far too much which gave me spots. Nothing to do with the product, all to do with me thinking a couple of drops wasn't enough. It really is, as the product is so concentrated. This also means it lasts longer - bonus.

  • Exfoliate! My skin is sensitive so the real grainy exfoliators are too harsh for me but the acid exfoliators are my most favourite things in the world. Gentle yet effective, look for products with AHAs and fruit acids to essentially melt away old skin so you glow.

  • Sleep. I value my sleep so much. I had a period of terrible insomnia and as well as having the dark circles under my eyes most people associate with tiredness, my skin was also very sallow, I was breaking out in spots which is very rare for me normally, and my skin was even more sensitive. Horrible. Then you cake yourself in make-up to hide it all which then makes your skin worse. Just sleep more!

  • Water. I know this is said a lot and is nothing new but I do drink a lot of water. I carry water with me everywhere I go and I definitely think it helps keep my skin clear and glowing.
So I think that's all my skin wisdom! I'd love to hear your top skin tips so please share.

NEW bareMinerals bareSkin Pure Brightening Serum Foundation

I went to the launch event for this months ago and have been thoroughly enjoying it ever since...
Big claims such as 'the future of foundation' and 'breaking liquid barriers' meant my expectations were very high. A mineral foundation containing Lilac Plant Stem Cells, Vitamin C and Jojoba Oil, it is a foundation and serum in one. Plus SPF of 20 which is fab.
Alongside this is the new BareMinerals Perfecting Face Brush which has a little well in the middle of it.
This allows for seamless application and not wasting a drop. There are 20 shades of foundation to choose from, so almost everyone should have a perfect match. I predictably was the palest, called Bare Porcelain.
I hate thick foundations. I much prefer a tinted moisturiser or BB cream texture, but I still want the coverage of a thicker base. The thing I love most about this foundation is the lightweight consistency of it.
The dropper applicator makes it very easy to get the right amount. Two drops for sheer coverage, 4 for medium and 6 for full coverage. BareMinerals have come up with a handy strapline for application - Shake, Drop, Buff. Shake the bottle, Drop 2 drops onto the brush, and Buff away - easy!
We were told this was launching September but it seems to have come early as it is available in stores and online for £26. The Perfecting Face Brush is also available now for £24.

Manicure Monday - Essie Truth or Flare

This week I'm rocking a gorgeous blue nail from Essie.
I've been obsessed with blue nails for quite some time now, I think they go with everything, suit all seasons, etc - just like jeans which is what inspired this particular shade from Essie's Spring 2014 collection.
For me, it's a bit lighter than denim, but it's still gorgeous. It has a slight mauve and grey haze to it, making it a very pretty lavender shade.
