What's Hot; What's Not

Hot:

20% off Selfridges - go, go, go! Use by Sunday and you get 20% off everything in Selfridges and online, perfect for some Xmas shopping this weekend. Get the voucher here

Paul & Joe My Secret Garden - their new collection for SS14 was revealed this week. As always, the products look absolutely gorgeous. The face powder (£28) looks like it's going to be wonderful, and also sort of looks like sugared almonds...

Check Your Baubles - Orchid, a male cancer charity, have created 'special' baubles to raise awareness of testicular cancer. Not strictly beauty I know, but I thought this was important to share. These baubles (who wouldn't want these hanging from their tree?!) are £5 from House of Fraser and online

Not:

Fur eyebrows - this landed in my inbox this week and it was a bizarre moment. You can now have fur eyebrow extensions is you feel inadequate in the brow region. I don't have much of a brow but there's no way I would do this. If you want to, it's £45

Counterfeit MAC - if you see some MAC products on eBay or Amazon which are too good to be true, they probably are. This story came out this week stating that many cheap MAC products will cause irritation and break-outs. Best to buy things you put on your face from a reputable retailer.

Breatharian Diet - WTF. Please don't try this, a diet where you don't eat or drink, just breathe. Please nobody try this. Not for me.

What's been your Hot and Not this week?

The Body Shop All-in-One BB Cream

This product has been out for some time now but it's taken me a while to try it. I love The Body Shop products but I do tend to think of them as bath and shower products rather than make-up. However the recent launch of Colour Crush lipsticks completely changed that!

The Body Shop All-in-One BB Cream is magical. It comes out white and then adapts to your skin tone in a second. There are four shades, but being pale I opted for the 01 shade which is for light skin tones. The cream itself is very light which I like - I don't like to be able to 'feel' my make-up. I just wanted it to even my skin tone rather than completely smother it...

As you can see it transforms itself as you rub it in so that it blends perfectly into your skin tone. Magic! I've been using this every day for a while now and that doesn't get old. This also contains various oils, including Community Fair Trade Marula Oil, to deeply moisturise the skin throughout the day.

I can't rave about it enough - if you like even coverage without it being heavy then this is for you. My only negative would be that it doesn't contain an SPF which you usually find in BB creams but I tend to put one on anyway.

It is £12, check it out here

BareMinerals New Canary Wharf Boutique

Last week I popped along to the brand new BareMinerals boutique in Canary Wharf. It was gorgeous, I got a wonderful 'make-under' and the Gaucho food was so yummy!

The boutique itself is very big, every single product is there to try, feel, see if it suits you, etc which they encourage so it is a very relaxed atmosphere. Very excitingly, they had a lot of their special Christmas gift sets out!

All the Faves was my fave (see what I did there!) which includes mini versions of all their best-sellers for £36. There is also Degrees of Dazzling, which is 20, yes 20!, eyeshadows in one set. If you, or someone you know, loves eyeshadow, this is the gift you need!

My make-under was the best part of the evening. It was a little daunting when I was told my make-up artist was only doing one half of my face and I'd have to do the other. Worried I could end up a little lop-sided!

The powder foundation was light which was great. I tend to go for tinted moisturisers or BB creams as I don't like anything too heavy on my skin. The cream concealer was fab, hiding my dark circles I never seem to be able to hide, and the blusher was exactly the shade I needed.

This is what I took when I got home. Ignore the awful hair. The look is very natural, which is what I always go for and I think my skin looks very even and glowing. What do you think? The make-up artist raved about a product called Well Rested, which, just by the name, I think I need! She popped it over the under-eye concealer. Will review this shortly.

If you want to check it out the BareMinerals Canary Wharf boutique is in the Jubilee Place shopping centre right next to the station.

Neal's Yard Afternoon Tea - New Organic Teas for 2014!

I recently went to the launch of the new Neal's Yard organic teas. Apologies for the rubbish quality photos (taken with my rubbish Blackberry)

It was a gorgeous afternoon tea with treats flavoured with teas, plus centrepieces with all the natural ingredients used in the new teas. How pretty is it?

I learnt so much! Including that Echinacea is a pretty pink flower! The power of all the natural herbs and flowers is pretty amazing. Obviously if you have support your immune system, or pick up your energy, with a natural tea rather than pills you would much rather do that. Neal's Yard have been selling loose teas for ages but decided to package them into teabags from January. Much easier to take to work, holiday, etc I think you'll agree.

There are nine new teas in total for every mood or condition possible, even including one that helps with hayfever!! Can't wait to try that one next Spring. Each one has been blended by their expert herbalists, and I met a couple of them - they really do know everything you could possibly need to know when it comes to herbs, flowers, etc. Their knowledge was very impressive.

If you like herbal tea you'll love this premium quality with a great value price-tag range of teas.

Each box will be £2.99 for 18 sachets.

NOTW: Nails Inc Neal Street

This week I decided to go for this gorgeous deep teal colour by Nails Inc.

It is actually a matte polish which I wasn't expecting. As much as I try to like a matte finish I just can't. If you do like it though I took some pics after two coats with no top coat.

It's not for me but some of you might like it and do glossy tips or something like that. I put on a glossy top coat which changes the polish to this:

I really love the colour, perfect for Autumn. However I was majorly disappointed with how long the polish lasted. I put it on yesterday morning (Sunday) and by the evening there were quite a lot of chips already. So much so that I had to take it off. Not good.

All in all a great colour, but the quality was shockingly bad. Try to find the colour elsewhere.

What's Hot; What's Not

Oh it's been a busy week in the beauty world!

Hot:

Diptyque Holiday Candles - this week these gorgeous things were launched. I love a candle. I love Diptyque. I love pretty colours. Tick, tick, tick. There is Orange Chaya, with notes of orange and cardamom, cinnamon and ginger; Écorce de pin, which has pine, cedar and patchouli and Encens des Indes which includes incense, myrrh, rose and cornflower (I think this one would be my fave). £45 for large, £25 for small, available now from SpaceNK

Eyelid art - this story came out this week. Make-up artist, Tal Peleg, uses eyelids as her blank canvas. Search for her on Instagram. Obviously totally unwearable in real life, but what she does is incredible. Perhaps eyelid art will become the new nail art?!

MAC Maleficent Collection - MAC has created a limited-edition collection for this new Disney film next year, with Maleficent played by Angelina Jolie. They have yet to confirm it will come to the UK, but fingers crossed. There will be 11 products, all sure to be stunning…images hopefully coming very soon!

Not:

Fried Chicken Candle Anyone? Yes this is real and has gone on sale this morning. A candle with the fragrance of fried chicken. Hmmm

Fast Food Nails - Another fast food beauty thing. Why?? Launched this week into Urban Outfitters, decorate your nails with pizza slices, pretzels, burgers and hotdogs. You know, if you're really into that thing. Anyone…? No.

Concealer fail - I felt so sorry for Sophie Ellis-Bextor when these pics came out at the beginning of the week. Someone surely noticed? I know the flash of the paps makes it worse but blend, blend, blend people!

What do you think of this week's Hot and Not?

Top Beauty Christmas Crackers 2013

I recently blogged my top beauty advent calendars to treat yourself or a loved one to in the run-up to Christmas. Now take a look at my Top 5 Christmas Crackers for either the day itself or as a quirky present...

Jo Malone - who wouldn't like a few Jo Malone goodies over Christmas lunch?! This is a 'luxury' cracker as it is £30 for just one cracker (so perhaps only do it for yourself and your best friend!). Inside you get Blackberry & Bay Cologne, Lime Basil & Mandarin Body & Hand Wash and Grapefruit Body Crème.

Nails Inc - these are £29.50 for the six. Inside each one is a FULL SIZE polish which is great. You're not being fobbed off with minis. The shades are: Mayfair Mews – navy Fibre Optic polish, Baker Street – cobalt blue (a personal fave of mine), Marylebone Lane – red glitter polish, King’s Road – rose gold Foil effect polish, Kensington High Street - deep wine polish and Trafalgar Crescent – silver Galaxy polish. Great value in my opinion

Cowshed - I'm so glad they've brought this out again this year. I got this for my Secret Santa in the office last year as I'd only just started working there and this is a pretty safe bet - everyone would love this. And for only £10 it's a great stocking filler or Secret Santa present. You get a Wild Cow Invigorating Bath & Shower Gel and a Knackered Cow Relaxing Body Lotion.

Lipstick Queen - exclusive to SpaceNK, there are two varieties of Lipstick Queen crackers, one is £20 (blue) and the other is £25 (purple). The blue one contains Laughter Shower Gel, Rococo Fashion Victim Nail Polish and Lipstick Queen Saint Rose Lipstick in Rosebud Pink. Whereas in the purple one you get Lipstick Queen Lip Brush, Rococo Stone Cold Karma Luxe Nail Polish and Lipstick Queen Nude Sinner Lipstick. They would both make great presents.

Anatomicals - the biggest bargain of them all! £3 for this Smacker in a Cracker Christmas Kissing Set! From ASOS, you get a minty lip balm and breath freshener. All you need for standing under the mistletoe!

Which one is your favourite?

NEW Burt's Bees Blueberry and Dark Chocolate

With severely cold weather outside and heaters on full blast indoors, my lips tend to dry out very quickly throughout the winter months. Some lip balms just don't seem to do anything but my trusty Lanolips got me through last year.

This year, Burt's Bees have brought out a new flavour of their classic lip balm - Blueberry and Dark Chocolate.

100% natural and smells good enough to eat, it does the job well. I wasn't sure if the combination would work (in the past I've only had berry lip balms) but it smells like some kind of gorgeous muffin! The balm itself doesn't have any colour to it which I think is good. It's also not sticky so your hair doesn't get stuck to it, which was something I found with Lanolips. Packed with antioxidants, this will be firmly by my side all Winter.

NOTW: CND Vinylux in Wildfire

The first product from my British Beauty Blogger beauty box! The CND Vinylux range of polishes are well-known for great quality, long-lasting polish so couldn't wait to try them. In the box I got the Wildfire polish, which is a deep dark classic red, plus the Vinylux top coat.

They are called weekly polishes so I'm hoping (fingers crossed) that this does indeed last all week. Wildfire is a gorgeous red shade. The polish itself is very similar to 'normal' polishes, goes on very evenly and dries quickly. I didn't notice it, but my Mum commented that the smell is quite strong. This is it with two coats on:

It has a gel-like finish, really glossy and it hasn't chipped at all. The top coat apparently works with natural light to harden and therefore strengthens over time rather than weakens like most other polishes.

I've got high hopes for this one. I love the colour, just hope I love how long it lasts. Will keep you posted!

Project Shoebox - Get Involved!

So I have Grace from AllThatSlap to thank for alerting me to this amazing cause.

Project Shoebox is a special Christmas appeal for any unwanted beauty products to give to women at a shelter who have been through a lot during this year, and Christmas may not be something they are looking forward to or have any presents to either give or receive.

I know I'm guilty of having beauty products just sitting in my drawers going unused. If you are the same, why not give it away this Christmas to this incredible cause? Surely it's a no brainer.

They will accept most things. Preferably unused, but if it is used yet still hygienic I think they would appreciate it as well. Here is a list of basic and luxury beauty products:

*Basics List*
Toothbrush and paste
Shower gel
Shampoo
Some sort of moisturiser
Tampons/towels

*Luxury List*
Hair conditioner
Hair products - spray, mousse, gel, etc
Body lotion, cream
Hand/Foot cream
Facial wash/cleanser, toner, moisturiser
Body scrub/loofah
Make up remover
Make up - unused mascara, lippy, etc
Cosmetics
Razors
Hairbrush/comb

Christmas is such a magical time. Everyone deserves to receive something, especially those most in need.

If you think it a worthy cause, please give what you can. Simply go to their Facebook page here, send them your postcode and they will send you a paid label to simply print off, as well as a list of local shops for you to drop your goodies off to. It couldn't be easier.

I'm off to see what I can give right now!

What's Hot; What's Not

Hot:

Japonesque Make-Up - the premium beauty tool company have launched their own range of make-up into John Lewis and it looks gorgeous! All about textures, you can expect great quality from them. Check out the full range here

Acupuncture - I tried this for the first time this week and absolutely loved it. I didn't really feel it whilst the needles were in there but afterwards my neck and back felt great and I didn't have to take so many painkillers - winner! I really want to do it regularly, it's just so expensive :-( Will keep an eye on Groupon!

Urban Retreat to Launch Skincare - the luxury hair and beauty salon group announced it is launching its first skincare range in March next year. There will be seven key products – a cleanser, exfoliator, mask, elixir, moisturiser, eye gel and lip serum. Products will be from £20 which is actually quite reasonable, I'm excited to try these

Not:

St Tropez Recall - this week St Tropez have had to recall their Instant Tan Face and Body Spray as some women developed breathing problems :-s It has been withdrawn with immediate effect from all shops

Estee Lauder Buying Butter London - I know it's only business and should (hopefully) not change the brand, but I don't really like all the 'big names' buying up all the brands. This is only just a rumour at the moment so I'll keep an eye out for any updates

Victoria Secret Show - if there is one thing guaranteed to make most of the female population feel inadequate it is the Victoria Secret show. Yes they look stunning and many women will want to try to copy them, but for the majority of women it is an unachievable body type which can be quite dangerous to try to achieve.

Let me know what you think of this week's Hot and Not,

St. Moriz Beauty Queen Gift Set

This would make an amazing Christmas present! Tanning brand, St. Moriz, have really upped their game this Christmas. They have five Christmas gift sets this year, including a Party Time one with nail wraps, an Instant Tan one and a Starter kit. I (obviously) went for the one called Beauty Queen...

Unfortunately the box got a little battered by Royal Mail :-( But if you pick it up from Tesco it will be fine. Inside you get an Instant Tanning Mousse, Eyeshadow Cream, Bronzing Powder, Lip Gloss and a cute black sequin handbag.

I've been a fan of St. Moriz tan for a long time now. So easy to apply, with the right amount of 'glow' as opposed to orange, and really blendable so it looks very natural. The lip gloss I love. It's subtle shimmer which is really wearable.

The eyeshadow is highly pigmented and you definitely need an eyeshadow primer so that it doesn't crease and stays put. It's a really nice bronze that works well with my blue eyes. It changes tone in various lights:

Basically you get everything in this set. Perfect for beauty obsessives like me! And all for £18 from Tesco. Bargain.

NOTW: Revlon Top Speed in Emerald

I was very indecisive this week about what to go for nail-wise. Nothing really jumped out at me until I uncovered this green bottle of Autumn goodness! Loving green nails at the moment and this is one of the purest greens you will find.

This is one of Revlon's Top Speed nail polishes which does dry super quick which is great when you don't have the time to be sitting around for an hour or more. You need two coats with this one but I think you'll agree it's one of the most beautiful greens around.

Unfortunately this polish hasn't lasted well. At all. I put it on Saturday morning and by the afternoon there were a couple of small chips and by today there are  massive chips. Not impressed.

Love the colour, however this will have to be a 'one night only' polish unfortunately.

What's Hot; What's Not

This week has some very happy and some very sad beauty news...

Hot:

Urban Decay Naked 3 palette - this is THE MOST exciting news from the week! If you haven't heard of the Urban Decay Naked eyeshadow palettes where have you been?! Naked 2 is my absolute fave, the eyeshadows are all gorgeous and very wearable. Whilst the Naked 2 is more browns and taupes, Naked 3 seems to have more pink tones. Urban Decay eyeshadows are the best I've ever come across - highly pigmented, easy to blend and just stunning colours. This is sure to sell out fast so be ready - 16th December at House of Fraser and Debenhams for £37. See all the shades at BritishBeautyBlogger

Anna Sui for ASOS - launched this week is a collaboration between ASOS and designer Anna Sui which is girly, pretty and majorly 'Disney-fied'! The first collection (which implies more will follow) uses Minnie Mouse as Anna's muse. How gorgeous are these nail polishes?! Check out the full range here

Latest in Beauty Glamour Box - Latest in Beauty and Glamour magazine have teamed up to produce this fab beauty box, available from this week. It costs £14.95 but the contents are worth £65 - bargain! Top brands include Maybelline, Benefit and Toni & Guy. Very tempting, check it out here

Not:

Sanctuary Spa Covent Garden closing - major sad face, this is a beauty institution and it was announced this week that its closing. After 36 years of providing the very best in beauty treatment, they will close their doors on 31st May. Sad times indeed.

Brazilian Blowdries - concern this week over these intense straightening hair treatments as they could ruin your hair. Not surprising really, as it uses harsh chemicals such as formaldehyde to achieve the results. If in doubt, steer clear.

Zest magazine closing - an even more sad face now. I used to love Zest magazine, and this week they confirmed that their January issue will be the final Zest mag. I think they will keep their website running which just shows the way people are now reading magazines but judging from the tweets this week a lot of people will miss it :-(

As always let me know your thoughts,

Cxx
