What's Hot, What's Not

Apologies for the blog silence, combination of illness and not being organised enough. But I have lots planned for next week!

Anyway, it's Friday...it's time for Hot and Not!

Hot:

Essie AW13 collection - so excited to try these polishes, especially the petrol shimmer of For the Twill of It. Get yours from Beauty Bay where they are reduced at the moment!

Butter London cosmetics - I've loved their nail polishes for ages and now Butter London are launching their own make-up range. Exclusive at Harvey Nics, it's sure to sell out soon. How pretty does it all look?!

Getting Wiggy with Pixie Lott - The Body Shop has just announced that Pixie Lott is joining their fundraising weekend next weekend to wear wigs for The Teenage Cancer Trust. We know she looks good in a brunette wig but wonder what she'll go for this time! They are hoping to reach half a million in fundraising for the cause - so get your wigs (and cash) at the ready for next weekend (4th-6th October)

Not:

Being pale - had to put the fake tan back on this week...pale and interesting is not a great look for me. Also, what's going on with this weather. It's cold, it's hot, it's muggy...eurgh!

Fashion Weeks - so over it now. I get quite excited with the start of New York, then London of course. But by now I'm fed up with the pretentious-ness of it all. Thankfully it ends this weekend!

Downton Abbey beauty range - I could upset a few people here but I'm just not a fan of Downton Abbey. So I find a beauty range for the TV series really weird. Even if you like the show would you buy it? Apparently M&S have had to rush it to launch for the new series. Hmmm

Let me know what you think,

Top LFW Trends

London Fashion Week ends today. Unfortunately I haven't been to any shows or behind the scenes this season, but I've still been watching live streams and tweets for the past few days, keenly checking out what beauty trends we'll be coveting next season. Here are my top picks I can't wait to try:

Purple eyes - the dominant look for both Holly Fulton and PPQ, lavender-hued eyes are set to be big news for next season

Effortless hair - put the straighteners, tongs and other hair appliances away. SS14 is all about natural hair that isn't too 'done' - perfect for someone like me who likes to just wash and go! This look is from the Paul Smith show

Smudgey eyes - as seen as Topshop Unique, keep everything else very natural then go wild with the eyeliner and mess it up like you slept in it - LOVE!

Nail art - it's not going anywhere, I'm going to have to perfect my skills...

Radiant skin - the absence of loads of fake tan for SS14 is surprising. Instead, it's all about healthy, flawless, radiant skin. Jourdan Dunn looked incredible at Burberry yesterday. Get your primer, BB creams and illuminisers at the ready...

What's Hot, What's Not

Friday!!!!

Hot:

NYFW - top trends we've seen from the first of the Fashion Weeks this month includes orange lips, blue eyeshadow, radiant skin and stripey nail art. Love the excitement of new trends!

Selfridges Elle Beauty Box - I want it, I need it, I have no money til payday which is Monday...let's hope it's still in stock next week. £125 worth of products for £30, here is what is included...

Get yours here

Benefit's New Flagship Boutique - it opened this week to much excitement. At this beauty wonderland you can have your brows, lashes, hair and nails all pampered whilst you sip on pink champagne. Go check it out here

Not:

Joey Essex fragrances - oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. Not content with his hair care range, Joey Essex has branched into male and female fragrance. That's right, female fragrance too. Called My Girl for women, and Fusey for men. Plus, what is this outfit?!

The weather - officially Autumn and I'm loving berry lips, nails, etc but what I'm not loving is the drizzly fine rain we've been having all week. My hair can't cope

Wanting a model body - a survey came out this week stating that most people aspire to have a model figure, with the top parts being the stomach and legs. With only the tiniest percentage of the population actually having this figure, it just sets people up for failure, disappointment and hating themselves. A more realistic goal would be much healthier. I know I will never be stick thin but then I wouldn't want to be. I definitely want to get more toned and fitter but no matter how much I tried I could never have small legs...just something I have had to accept.

Not sure:

Matte nails - one of the trends to come out of NYFW for next season. I can't make up my mind about it yet

Most excitingly, LFW starts today. The best time to be in this city!

New Sainsbury's Boutique Beauty

Sainsbury's have just launched a new own-range of make-up called Boutique. Established make-up artists have been brought on board to create the perfect collection of colours and textures. The range includes nail polishes (including Shocking Pink reviewed here), lip glosses, lipsticks and eyeshadows.

I'm really lacking in lipsticks so I decided to try a few from the new range.

From left to right we have The Naked Truth, In the Buff and Lip in the Bud:

I'm not very confident with dark colours so these are quite nude. Perfect for everyday wear, and obviously quite on trend right now with L'Oreal launching their nude lip collection, Colour Riche Collection Privee, this month.

Here are the shades from top to bottom The Naked Truth, In the Buff and Lip in the Bud

You can see how creamy they are. Super moisturising, they last well and most importantly don't dry out the lips. My favourite of the three is In the Buff - subtle but deep enough in colour to emphasise the lips without being high maintenance and having to reapply all the time.

Sainsbury's is really upping its beauty game at the moment. With its competitors doing the same (Tesco are ploughing lots of money into their beauty halls), it seems supermarkets are looking to compete with the likes of Boots and Superdrug and Boutique is a great mid-price, quality range.

Available in stores nationwide from this month, the Boutique lipsticks are £7 each,

NOTW: OPI Thanks a Windmillion

It's official, summer is over for another year. Time to embrace Autumn. I'm actually quite ready for a change of season and therefore a change in nail colours!

Here is a great greeny grey which is part of the OPI Holland collection, called Thanks a Windmillion. I love this colour, its something a bit different and unusual but I've had a lot of comments on it.

Here it is in the sun:

And the shade:

Pretty, but definitely an Autumn colour rather than Summer. It's currently £11 on Beauty Bay

What's Hot, What's Not

Haven't done this for a while but Hot and Not is back!!

Hot:

Charlotte Tilbury launches - unless you've been in a hole for the past few weeks you can't have missed the most exciting beauty launch of the year. The Charlotte Tilbury collection is pricey but beautiful. Definitely worth an investment if you can afford it. Available at Selfridges from this week, I adore the look of these eyeshadow pencils

Percy Pig Pedi - Bliss Spa have launched this as they've just gone into the M&S beauty hall. It includes a raspberry foot soak, scrub and massage and you can choose from a range of pink and lilac polishes. The best bit? Alliteration aside, you get Percy Pigs to devour as your feet get pampered! Available from this week til November and is £60.

Ciate Advent Calendar is BACK! And better than ever. This is my kind of advent calendar. Beauty advent calendars seem to be really popular nationwide and this year is no exception. It sold out super fast last year so make sure you're ready by signing up here to find out the launch date

Not:

Queen Latifah and Pantene - new brand-celeb partnership announced this week. Not sure about you but I'm just a bit baffled by it.

New Vaseline 'flavour' - they built up the anticipation, posted mysterious images...guesses flying around were red wine, pomegranate, acai. But nope, it's Paint the Town. That's not even a flavour! Last time they had Pink Bubbly and I love mine...but just a hint of red? Hmmm, definitely underwhelmed by this.

1D Perfume Sales - in just the first week it's made SO. MUCH. MONEY. £360,000 to be precise. WTF. I know I'm risking feeling the wrath of their overly loyal fans by saying this, but why would you buy a perfume from 1D??

Organic September - Top Picks

New month, new start - I'm back to blogging!

It's Soil Association's Organic September so to celebrate organic beauty products here are my top 5 I'd recommend you try:

Neal's Yard Frankincense Intense - this has only just launched on 28th August, and I've been trying it morning and night since the launch event. It's fair to say I'm in love. I'll do a full post on it soon, but this pot of goodness contains organic frankincense oil, gardenia stem cells, organic argan oil and three peptides. Try it, it delivers results!

Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish - a beauty classic that I've only recently discovered but has instantly reached 'can't live without' status. I never thought an organic gentle formula would be enough to get off all your make-up but it does. It has eucalyptus, camomile and rosemary oils, as well as cocoa butter and beeswax. They have recently launched a special edition with Grapefruit and Patchouli which I can't wait to get my hands on.

Trilogy Rosehip Oil - I got into this last winter as my dry skin needed something extra and I'm definitely going back to it once it starts getting cold again soon. It contains rosehip oil as well as omega 3,6 and 9, essential fatty acids and antioxidants to give healthy skin.

L'Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream - a handbag essential of mine, you only need a little bit so one tube lasts forever. It also smells amazing as it contains almond, honey, coconut and shea butter. A real treat for your hands, and all natural.

The Body Shop Coconut Lip Butter - I love all things coconut, and this is good enough to eat (almost). Containing organic virgin coconut oil, it deeply moisturises lips. Plus it's only £4, a bargain!

So why not give organic beauty a go this month for Organic September?

Let me know your favourite organic beauty products.
