What's Hot; What's Not

New Rituals Laughing Buddha range - I went to an event last night and got to try, and most importantly smell, these new products from Rituals! The range has lots of orange and mandarin scents, making it very zesty. Will review products in full soon, but my fave so far is the body butter - the consistency is amazing!

Laura Mercier AW13 collection - called Dark Spell, this launches next month (so not really autumn/winter!). I especially like the look of the face illuminator. In the range there is also Baked Eye Colour, Satin Matte Eye Colour, Kohl Liner Extreme, Caviar Stick Eye Colour, Nail Lacquer, Crème Smooth Lip Colour, Lip Plumper and Eye Canvas. Prices start from £12.50.

Wimbledon nail art - I tried my own version (green nails with purple tips) though it didn't come out too well! Nothing compared to Serena Williams' nails - LOVE!

Not wearing eyeliner - my hayfever has been AWFUL this week. Which has meant that I haven't been able to wear eyeliner (there hasn't really been any point in wearing any make-up this week but I can't not wear foundation and mascara!). I love my eyeliner, I feel much more 'done' and I miss it. Stop with the pollen!

Body brushing - I always aim to do this, and always, without fail, I will forget. Turns out I'm not the only one, I asked fellow bloggers on Twitter and loads came back to me saying they forget to. The annoying thing is its supposed to be so good for your skin and yourself generally. How can we remember??
Looking like a Japanese doll - why oh why would you do this?! This woman spends 3 hours a day creating this look, and £200 a month on make-up. But why??? That's what I don't get. For attention? Hmmm

Let me know if you agree or not,

HD Brows Bronzer

I'm always on the look-out for a good bronzer. I don't like sparkly ones and there seem to be shelves full of them so when HD brows said they had a matte version I jumped at the chance to try it.

I didn't even know they did bronzer. This is probably a medium shade, suitable for most. It comes with a mirror (great), a plastic cover so that the mirror doesn't get dirty (doubly great) and a sponge to apply (not so great). I found the sponge wasn't very good for blending so I've been using my new EcoTools brush.

I found this definitely needs blending. I'm fairly pale so on first application the bronzer is quite dramatic. However once blended it looks very natural and gives you a sun-kissed glow without the sun damage! Sometimes I use it just on my cheeks, and sometimes I sweep it all over my face if I need more colour.

There is the tiniest amount of shimmer to this bronzer, so it's not 100% matte, but not enough shimmer to make me feel like I'm going to a fancy dress party with sparkle all over my face!

This will last you ages, it's quite a large pan for the bronzer. The HD Brows Bronzer costs £19.96 from here.

Molton Brown Blissful Templetree Bath & Shower

A perfect bath time treat! I used this last night and it smells beautiful. It is another goodie from the Selfridges summer beauty box (slowly working my way through it all).

You know you're getting quality when it comes to Molton Brown. The price point means I often don't use their products (only if I get them as a gift!) Templetree is usually known as frangipani, and this also contains jasmine and patchouli so it smells really exotic.

You also get quality bubbles with this. One of my bugbears is pouring bath gel in, the bubbles form, and then when you get in they all vanish. But not with this! It can be used in the shower or bath.

Overall a great product, although the price probably means it's a treat rather than an everyday product.

This is £18, check it out here

Vitamin K Cream Update

So 6 weeks ago I started using a Vitamin K cream morning and night to try to combat my small spider veins on my cheeks. Take a look here

I've made sure that I've used it religiously, even putting more on my cheeks when I remember. I've given it the full 6 weeks which they recommend and...nothing. No difference whatsoever.

This is how my cheek looked before I started using the cream

And here is how it looks now

Apart from being a bit more tanned there is no difference between the pictures. So disappointing. I wasn't expecting them to completely disappear but I thought the cream would do something at least. Make them smaller or fainter...anything.

So the moral of the story is that vitamin K creams do not work on spider veins. I think proper light therapy is the way forward, and probably the only thing that will deliver results.

Back I go to Google...

Timeless Tuesday - Bio Oil

Time for another beauty classic. This week I've picked the ultimate skin saviour - Bio Oil!

The things this oil can do is incredible. Bio Oil states (and most importantly has the research and evidence to prove) that it helps:

  • Stretch marks
  • Scars
  • Acne
  • Uneven skintone
  • Ageing skin
  • Dehydration

Wowzers! It first came to my attention as the Holy Grail for all pregnant women to help combat their stretch marks, with some women even saying it stopped them appearing. However it soon became a more mainstream bathroom cabinet essential due to the amazing results it gives with a high street price tag.

It contains a breakthrough ingredient called PurCellin Oil, which makes the oil light and non-greasy. This makes sure that all the plant extract and vitamin goodness inside it is absorbed deep into the skin.

As someone with dry skin, it's an amazing product. A few drops is all you need for each limb and your skin feels incredible afterwards.

The number of awards this product has won worldwide is crazy impressive, see the full list here

Such a simple product but with amazing results, no wonder this is a favourite with many beauty experts! Available in various sizes, check the Bio Oil range out here

New Tangle Teezer Aqua Splash

This was in my Selfridges summer beauty box and has become a firm favourite already. Tangle Teezer are so well known for their effective detangling brushes that most people probably own one. But this is the latest design which can be used whilst in the shower, on holiday in the pool, at the beach, wherever there is water. Great for the summer.

It was originally created for professionals in salons but has now made it onto the high street and comes in black, blue, green or the girly bright pink I've got. The main difference to the normal tangle teezers is that it is hollow so water can run through it and not get mouldy (eurgh), and you can also put you hand inside to use it easily.

Tangle Teezer say it should be used in the shower to evenly distribute shampoo and conditioner through the hair. At home, I tend to just use it once I'm out of the shower, but this would be great on holiday. My hair tends to get really dry from the pool or sea so I use a lot of conditioner and this would be great to do that without hurting my scalp.

A great addition to your suitcase! I recommend you get one, especially if you have long hair.

Available for £13.99 at Boots here

NOTW: Paul & Joe Summer Collection in Miami

This is my first Paul & Joe product and I'm in love! I've always admired the brand for their gorgeous packaging, and their nail polishes are no exception, arriving in this beautiful box.

For summer, Paul & Joe have new shades including No. 31 which is called Miami and no. 32,  Caribbean.

I've tried Miami first which is the pinky-purple shade. The polish itself is really great quality, and you have a slightly thicker brush to normal making application pretty darn easy! Here is the Miami shade after two coats.

Pretty right?! The slight purple tinge to the pink means it's not a 'bubblegum pink', which will suit most people and skin tones. It's a gorgeous shade and something to consider if you're getting bored of the neon trend at the moment. It's also lasted really well, and the bottles are so pretty you'll want to show them off on your dressing table!

Paul & Joe polishes are £12 each, available from Harrod's, Selfridges and ASOS.

What's Hot, What's Not

Selfridges Festival Box - launched online just this morning, I'm so tempted to buy this after their Summer beauty box was such a hit! It contains Topshop lip crayon in Powder Room, Sol de Janeiro Coconut Water Cooling Mist, Eyeko Skinny Liquid Eyeliner in Navy, Coloursmash Hair Shadow, Violent Lips Lip Appliques in Warm Rainbow, Illamasqua Liquid Metal metallic cream, Bare Minerals Pretty Amazing Moxie lip gloss, Azature nail polish in Champagne, Cowshed anti-bacterial hand gel, NPW mini scented hand & face wet wipes, NPW chubby glitter stick and Illamasqua complimentary eye colour consultation. Wow! Get it all for £25 here It'll definitely sell out fast.

New super pretty Guerlain products - these look so beautiful. Guerlain products always looks great, and these are no exception. Launching online at Debenhams, Harrod's, House of Fraser and Selfridges next month there is the Aqua Allegoria Nerolia Bianca fragrance (£39) and Terra Nerolia Bronzing Powder (£44). My fave has to be the bronzer, although it is rather pricey...

Face mists - this week the weather has deemed this a necessity. Absolutely loving my Caudalie Beauty Elixir to cool me down and refresh me. Get yours here

Frizzy hair - this humidity is not fun for my hair. There is absolutely no point trying to straighten it or tame it somehow so I've spent the week with mental hair. Please sort it out weather man!

Not taking your make-up off - apparently almost half of all women sleep with their make-up on at least once a week according to a survey this week. I'm fairly lazy about doing it myself but it doesn't take much time to rub a face wipe over your face, and it saves your skin so much damage - sort it out ladies!

Fake beauty bloggers - there has been a lot of talk recently about bloggers who are buying Twitter followers to then con PRs and brands into giving them products, inviting them to events, etc. I'm quite offended by this. For all us beauty bloggers out there who have worked really hard for a long time to get where we are, the small majority who think they can use these short-cuts are giving all bloggers a bad name. It's not cool.

As always, let me know what you think of this week's Hot and Not,

Lauren's Way Fake Tan Teasers

So with the dismal summer we've had so far, plus my increased concern for sun damage and ageing, I've decided to give lots of different fake tans a go. I feel that fake tans have come a long way in recent years with better technology, ingredients, etc so (hopefully!) gone are the days when you looked Tango-ed and your bed sheets and towels were permanently discoloured.

First up, Lauren's Way. I've heard great things about this range. Coming from somebody off TOWIE you might worry that you'd end up looking rather orange but my friends had good results so I gave it a go myself. Lauren's Way have launched a set of four minis called Tan Teasers, including the fake tan lotion or mousse, Glam Tan, which is a slightly shimmery tan, moisturiser and exfoliator, plus tanning mitt. Basically everything you could need!

The Self Tan Lotion is medium so perfect for my pale English skin! You can get dark if you're braver or darker skinned than me. I'm better with lotion than mousse or spray from my Fake Bake days, so I found this really easy to use.

So here is my arm beforehand...

And after!

A huge improvement! It's really easy to apply and blend in and doesn't cake at all whilst you're blending it. There's something about fake tan that really does increase my confidence.

A new fake tan favourite of mine, get yours for £19.95 from here

EcoTools Fresh and Flawless Complexion Set

This is my first products I've used from EcoTools. A five piece brush set for everything you could possibly need...

The first thing that struck me was the design of them. They are gorgeous looking brushes, each with a different coloured leaf and flower pattern. Very pretty indeed.

From left to right there is a Flat Concealer Brush, Buffing Concealer Brush, Precision Foundation Brush, Complexion Blending Brush and a Full Powder Brush. What more could you need?! The brushes also, very handily, have what they are on the handles so you don't get mixed up.

As well as the great range of brushes you get in this kit, the quality of them is fab. EcoTools claim they are beautifully soft brushes, and they truly are. Like all EcoTools brushes, the handle is made from bamboo and the brush is 100% cruelty-free synthetic taklon. Whatever that may be, all I know is that it's soft!

This is a great present, either to yourself or a friend. The set costs £11.99 from Boots.

Timeless Tuesday - Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate

Another beauty classic which deserves its place in the Beauty Hall of Fame!

The Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate is a special blend of oils designed to give you younger looking skin whilst you sleep. And doesn't it deliver!

Although I haven't noticed a huge improvement in the reduction of fine lines, I definitely notice my skin looking more radiant and generally the texture is better in the morning. It is a clear oil containing essential fatty acids and oils such as lavender (even better for night time), evening primrose oil and Omega 6. A powerhouse for your skin!

The best thing? You only need a couple of drops of this potent mixture to achieve great results. I haven't seen or heard anyone give this product a negative review. It seems everyone loves it, either as a every night essential, or for when your skin needs a little perking up.

It is 99.8% natural (almost 100%!) and will last you ages as you only use a couple of drops of the stuff a day. A cross between a serum, facial oil, and just altogether skin saviour, it costs £36 from John Lewis, I definitely recommend you try it.

The Body Shop Honey Bronze Lip Nectars

The Body Shop recently launched their Honey Bronze range which includes a dry body oil, bronzing face gel, bronzing powder and more. Perfect to get a golden glow over the summer. I decided to try their lip nectars (lip glosses to you and me)...

On the left we have Honey Beige and the right is Honey Bunch.

Here the top one is Honey Beige and the bottom is Honey Bunch. The honey beige lip nectar is much more subtle, with just a slight bronze sheen, whereas the honey bunch gloss seems very orange. When I first put it on my hand I wasn't sure I'd like it but take a look at what it looks like on the lips...

And the Honey Beige looks like this:

As you can see there isn't a huge amount of difference. The Honey Bunch doesn't appear too orange which is what I was worried about. I think my favourite is Honey Beige though, it's very subtle and suits me better.

Both have a pretty shimmer to them which I like and they are super moisturising. Think Juicy Tubes in terms of quality. All the Honey Bronze products have Ethiopian Fair Trade honey in them to continue the long-standing Body Shop ethos.

They are £9.50 each from here

NOTW: Leighton Denny in Ink Jet and Barry M Gelly in Greenberry

I attended a networking event with a friend last week, mainly just to catch up with her, but on offer was a quick file and polish which I obviously couldn't resist. My Model's Own Ice Neon polish chipped so badly I really needed a new shade.

As a complete change from the neon pink I had on, I decided to go for a really deep blue. The manicures were done by therapists training at the London School of Beauty and Make Up and were really very good. Leighton Denny polishes were on offer, so here is my Ink Jet shade.

A beautiful deep shimmery blue, I absolutely love this colour.

For this week I then decided to go for another bright. I've been loving Barry M high shine Gelly polishes so this week it is the turn of Greenberry!

A beautifully bright pastel green, it is certainly brightening up this dull day!

Hot and Not!

It's Friday again which means it's Hot and Not time - enjoy! As always, let me know what you think...

Shu Uemura Eye-conic collection - pretty pretty! Launching next month, to celebrate the brand's 30th birthday, this takes its inspiration from the 1960's. It definitely looks psychedelic!

Essie summer collection - I spotted these delights in Boots this week and desperately want ALL the shades! From left to right they are Sunday Funday, The Girls Are Out, Full Steam Ahead, Rock the Boat, The More the Merrier and Naughty Naughtical....sigh

The Red Lippy Project - I did a more detailed post on this awareness week on Monday but it deserves to go on here as well. A great cause, Twitter has been buzzing with this and hopefully a lot of money has been raised, and most importantly, more women will attend their screenings.

Bad extensions - not loving Frankie Sandford's long hair but at least her extensions seem to be good quality. Sarah Harding on the other hand...well, just look!

Beyonce airbrushed - I love Beyonce, think she's amazing, but obviously Roberto Cavalli think she needs a bit of help. Awful. Also what message does it send to young girls when even Beyonce needs to be thinned out?

Festival Beauty - festival season is officially on with the Isle of Wight one this weekend. Some people seem to look great at festivals but all I remember from Glastonbury a few years ago is the need for plenty of anti-bac and baby wipes!! Not glam.

Rimmel Wake Me Up Instant Radiance Shimmer Mousse

I've had this on my list to try for months. Rimmel Wake Me Up Instant Radiance Shimmer Mousse does what it says on the tin. It is a mousse consistency with a shimmer effect that perks up your skin!

There are two shades - Shimmering Sand and Radiant Rose. As someone who already has quite a lot of pink undertones in their skin, I don't need to add any more so I've got the Shimmering Sand shade which is more of a bronze shade.

I found the consistency quite thick so you don't need much at all. Even though it is thick, the mousse texture means it rubs in really well and evenly. It gives a pretty subtle shimmer (which is good for me, I don't like a lot of sparkle!) with a hint of colour. This looks really pretty along the cheekbone, and a tiny bit on the brow bone.

It is £4.99 from Boots,

Half Year Resolution Update

I've been trying to detox/look after myself better for over a week now.

I was hoping work might calm down a bit and I'd be less stressed but unfortunately that hasn't happened.

I'm definitely drinking more water, and eating more fruit and veg (though not 5 portions every day unfortunately). I find it really difficult to fit in the gym around work and social things during the week, but I'm really getting into my yoga in the week, and I went to the gym at the weekend.

Also I'm getting a LOT more sleep. Last Friday I slept for 12 hours, and could have slept for longer. Obviously my body needs it!

Alcohol has been tricky...we had work drinks during the week, plus wine on a Friday, a picnic on Saturday which involved more wine, and afternoon tea on Sunday with a champagne cocktail (not to mention all the calories involved!). So this is something I need to really work on! I don't want to cut out alcohol completely (what fun would that be!) but I need to reduce it.

I've been taking multivitamins and do feel much better than I did. My trapped nerve is almost completely better which is a huge bonus.

I won samples of Upbeat protein drinks for the office which I'm hoping will help with my diet, can't wait to try them.

Overall so far it's been OK but I could do better!

Do let me know if you have any tips for fitting in the gym during the week, stress relief or general detox advice.

New Shower Essential!

Imperial Leather are known for their fantastic shower and bath gels. However they have just launched a new, improved formula which is richer, thicker and 'twice as creamy'!

I don't know about you but I hate using a shower gel which doesn't lather up, it feels like it doesn't do anything. Much disappointment. So I've always liked Imperial Leather for their instant bubbles. And this new version is even better!

It is really thick (I'll spare you any shower pics!), so you don't need much to get a lather to use all over your body. The new version also has 5 times more skin conditioner in it which makes it even better. I always have to put body lotion on after a shower or bath as my skin gets quite dry and tight, but this shower gel means I don't need so much of it.

This is the Citrus Burst shower gel which smells really fruity with lime and kiwi in there. Great to get you going in the morning, it's a subtle scent compared to the 'grab you by the balls' Original Source-type shower gels.

Overall a lovely product, it's only £1.89 from Tesco - go go go!

Timeless Tuesday - Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream

I've decided to start a new weekly post about beauty classics and why they deserve to be so, called Timeless Tuesday! I love a bit of alliteration.

First up, Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream. Apparently one of these sells somewhere in the world every minute. It took their team over 3 years, 52 different formulations and 2 clinical trials to come up with the perfect pot of goodness we have today.

So why is it so good? It has a host of active ingredients from the seaweed and marine plants their research team discovered. The main thing I love about it is the extra light feeling. There is absolutely no oiliness and it sinks into the skin, leaving it feeling smooth and hydrated immediately.

It has won over 20 beauty awards. OVER 20!! That's insane. Not only that, their clinical trials support the anti-ageing claims they make. Hydration is increased by 45% and appearance of wrinkles reduced by a whopping 78%. What's not to love?

To celebrate a decade of this amazing product, Elemis have launched a special limited edition version with a fancy lid. Not sure whether it's worth paying more for it, what you really need is what's inside.

A beautiful product, you can see why it has been embraced so much by the press, celebs and public since it launched a decade ago. With so many new beauty products launched pretty much every day, to hold your position in the 'beauty hall of fame' is tough. But Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream has achieved just that.
