Think Positive - Guest Post

Hi I’m Rachael and I blog over at, a Beauty, Fashion & Lifestyle blog. I’m very lucky in the fact that whilst Christina is on holiday, I get to write a post for her lovely followers!

Blogging has fast become a huge part of my life, as I’m sure it has for many bloggers! However, recently I have been so disappointed to hear that some amazing bloggers/youtubers alike, have had some horrible things said about them. People dictating what they should be writing about, or what they themselves should look like. The blogging community is normally such a positive and friendly community, it’s silly people that tarnish that reputation with petty school girl comments that frankly, none of want to read and it’s a waste of their time, not ours.

I thought I would create a more positive outlook on blogging, and give you my 2 cents on the amazing, positive side to blogging!

  • The feeling you get when you’ve uploaded a new post to your blog, and you’re actually pleased with how it’s turned out, whether it be your crystal clear pictures or your witty banter.  You feel proud of your little blog.
  • When someone comments on one of your posts, not spamming about their giveaway, but actually about what you have written. Showing they have sat and actually read your post!
  • When you get lovely feedback whether it is via a comment or twitter, telling you how much they like your blog and read every one of your posts. It definitely puts a spring in your step.
  • A blogger, whose blog you love to read, follows you! It makes you think that if someone with such an amazing blog, can like yours too, then you’re definitely doing something right.

Blogging Community:

The blogging community is amazing. The twitter chats that take place on a Wednesday & Sunday evening are the best. You meet so many amazing people, with the same interests as you and don’t think you are crazy for your obscene shopping habits or lipstick addiction. Everyone is so friendly and gives amazing advice. I personally have met some incredible people through blogging and twitter. People I now consider friends.

  • Write about what you want! It doesn’t have to be the latest crazed about foundation, whatever you’re passionate about, write about! Don’t be afraid to go against the hype and say how much you really don’t like a product that everyone else loves. Everyone is different and that’s okay!
  • Write as often as you want, don’t feel like you have to blog every single day, because you don’t. If you force yourself to sit and write a post, you’ll end up taking the fun out of it and that’s what blogging is all about. I myself have suffered from severe writers block, and didn’t write a blog post for a few weeks, but that’s okay. Take some time, take a breath and you’ll come back more motivated and inspired than ever. Don’t force it!
  • Lastly, don’t try to get so wrapped up in how many followers you have. Blogging can be so competitive and it shouldn’t be. No blog is ‘big’ or ‘small’ as people seemed to have labelled them. Don’t ever let anyone one label the size of your blog! Whether you have 5,000 followers or 50 followers, your blog is for you and you should be so proud of what you have achieved.

I hope you guys have enjoyed my post and don’t miss Christina too much ;)

Holiday Nails!

I had to choose the brightest shades for my fingers and toes to shine in the sun! I went for the new Rimmel Salon Pro in Hip Hop for my toes (I reviewed it last week here) and Nails Inc neon pink called Notting Hill Gate for my fingers.

It's a gorgeous bright shade. Perfect for happy nails! The polish itself is quite thin so you definitely need two coats. I was even tempted to put a third coat on but I didn't want it to get too thick and go bubbly.

I also hope it won't go a bit sticky as it melts in the heat but we'll see. It puts a smile on my face and even if its not great weather back here these pretty nails should improve your mood!

What do you think? What colours do you tend to go for on holiday?

Holiday Time!

I'm in Egypt this week!! Apart from being a little bit worried about the 40 degree heat, I can't wait for some relaxation and sun. I may even indulge in a little massage whilst I'm away!

I have some blog posts scheduled for this week, and some other beauty bloggers have kindly written some guest posts for me.

See you next week!

Hot and Not

It's Friday already! Got that Friday feeling? Me too!!

'Green' beauty boxes - I've never actually subscribed to a beauty box before and I think a lot of people are a bit over the monthly Glossybox reviews but these interest me as they contain natural, organic skincare and beauty products. Souk Souk has been going a while but it was announced this week that beautecobox will launch next month. Check them out at and

London High Street Fashion Week - starting today at Boxpark in Shoreditch, this is the Fashion Week where most of us can actually afford the clothes! I'm really interested to see the beauty looks that come out of it too. Find out more here

YSL Tie & Dye Nail Polish - there isn't much info available yet on these but how pretty are they?! They've launched in America and I've just discovered there are available exclusively for £18.00 each at Selfridges here! You can achieve three looks with one bottle - the top layer is a sheer slightly coloured top coat, the middle layer is a deeper colour and the bottom contains a pretty shimmer. Can't wait to see some swatches!

More magazine ending - after over 20 years More magazine is no more :-( The end of an era, I can remember being 14 and absolutely loving the magazine! I really hope it doesn't set a trend of other mags closing...

Spider veins - I've decided I need to take action on mine. I have a few on my cheeks which aren't really noticeable to other people but I want to get rid of them. From researching online I need Vitamin K cream in my life so I'll let you know how I get on.

DD creams - I heard a rumour this week that after the original BB creams and now the onslaught of CC creams, we may be subjected to DD creams very soon. When will it stop???

Sanctuary Power Peptide Serum

Isn't this just the funkiest looking serum you've ever seen?! I got this at the CEW evening and I'm a sucker for things which looks good so had to pick this up.

I stupidly didn't take a photo of it before I started using it, so you can see the helix better in this image:

Cool eh? The helix is actually a combination of 7 oils. This serum is packed full of lovely ingredients. Matrixyl, which was recently discovered to boost collagen production in the skin - great. It also has hylaronic acid - LOVE! This plumps and hydrates like nothing else.

It has a lovely texture which just melts into the skin, plus you only need one pump of it in the morning and evening to cover the whole face.

You can see the helix better when I flatten out the serum here:

It slightly sparkles which helps give you a radiant glow! This is an incredibly hydrating serum. It says it firms and lifts the skin, reducing the appearance of wrinkles, which I haven't really noticed. But then I am only 27 (thankfully I don't have many wrinkles just yet!) and I've only been using it for about a month. Overall I would definitely use this again.

Check it out here for £25.00

Has anyone else used this before?

Revlon Lip Butter in Raspberry Pie

Revlon's new Colourburst Lip Butters are a real delight! I tried the Raspberry Pie colour and its become one of my handbag essentials.

If you want to have a pop of colour whilst also conditioning your lips this is for you. It has mango, shea and coconut butter which Revlon claim increases moisture by a whopping 156%! Available in 20 various shades, Raspberry Pie is is a gorgeous berry balm.

It glides on effortlessly and does moisturise your lips a lot immediately. The one downside is its staying power. As it is a balm it does come off fairly quickly. If you remember to keep reapplying then fine, but I've often found I'll put this on in the morning and by the time I've had breakfast and a cup of tea it's barely there.

This colour really is beautiful though, and for someone who has shied away from lipstick due to my lips drying out, this is a great compromise. A more intense colour than a balm with the moisturising effect.

I'm sold! Check out the range at Boots, £7.99 each.

NOTW: NEW Rimmel Salon Pro - Hip Hop with Kate Moss

This week's nails are courtesy of the new range from Rimmel, called Salon Pro. Kate Moss has selected some shades for them and I went for a bright coral colour called Hip Hop!

They say that the range will last up to 10 days with its Lycra technology and has a gel-like finish. I can't comment on the 10 days just yet, but it has lasted 2 days with no chips so far...

You do need 2 coats with this, and it is super shiny which I suppose is the 'gel' formulation. You get a wide brush which definitely makes the polish go on very evenly and build to a lovely colour. The colour is my favourite part of this nail polish! With this weekend being so sunny it looked great, and as I'm off on holiday next weekend I think this is definitely a contender for my holiday polish! Even more so if it lasts me the whole week chip-free.

See how pretty it is in the sun!! There are loads of colours available, with Kate putting her name to some of them. I got mine in Boots fro £4.49, check them out here

I'll keep you updated with how it lasts throughout the week.

Estee Lauder Daywear BB Cream

This is another CEW gift. I've never really given BB creams a chance as it takes a lot to drag me away from my Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser. But as this was in my goody bag I thought I'd give it a go.

I love Estee Lauder skincare. The Idealist range is one of my absolute faves (if only it was slightly cheaper) and the Advanced Night Repair is a firm favourite with everyone I speak to. So from the skincare point of view I knew this BB cream would deliver. This contains SPF 35 which is fantastic, the higher the better in my opinion.

This is shade number 1 (the lightest of only 2 available) which is actually quite dark. I'm usually one up from the lightest in the range, and I do find this a little darker than I would normally go for. It is very lightweight which I love. I usually don't like foundations as they are too heavy for me.

Now for the before and after kind! And ignore the mess in the background!!

I think the most obvious difference is that my skin tone is much more even and a little darker. This BB cream also contains antioxidants which is a bonus. You also notice the scent of the cream which is cucumber - quite unusual but nice.

Overall I'm surprised that I haven't jumped on the BB cream bandwagon earlier. I love my tinted moisturisers and BB creams are essentially tinted moisturisers with added extras. Why not get more for your money?! This has become part of my daily routine. The only downside is the limited shades available but perhaps Estee Lauder will bring out more.

Get it at House of Fraser for £32.

Have you tried this? What is your favourite BB cream?

L'Occitane Limited Edition Spring Cherry Body Lotion

This is L'Occitane's Spring 2013 collection and it smells yummy! I'm easily won over by a scent and I love cherries, so as soon as I received the info on this new range I had to try it.

It has a light scent, a mixture of floral and cherries as the name suggests, which is perfect for Spring. There is a shower gel, hand cream and soap also available. The body lotion is called a 'velvet moisturising gel'...

It wouldn't say it is a gel and it doesn't have a velvet feel at all. It's a very light lotion which sinks into the skin straight away. As the weather warms up and my skin doesn't need such intense moisturisation this is a great step from my thick body butters.

All in all I really like this product. I love the smell, the bottle is pretty to display and it makes the transition from Winter to Spring. It costs £20 and is only available for a limited time, see more information here

NOTW: essie Snap Happy

This week's nails are bright to go with the amazing sunshine!! Hallelujah!

essie Snap Happy is part of the Winter 2012 collection which I got in the New Year sales.

However these colours are definitely not just restricted to winter. Probably the only one which is would be Leading Lady as it's a deep red sparkle. The others, especially Where's My Chauffeur and Snap Happy, are very much for Spring!

This is the first time I've used this colour and I really REALLY like it. I initially thought it would be a coral, but it's actually an orange red. Just one coat would probably suffice but this is a pic with two coats on.

Perfect for this weather! It's certainly cheering me up this Monday.

Hot and Not

Drumroll please.......

BaByliss Pro Perfect Curl - big news this week. The Daily Mail ran a full feature on one product which is quite unheard of, and the beauty industry went a little bit crazy for this amazing gadget. It makes curling your hair look so easy, I really really REALLY want one. Only downside - the price. It's £169 from Sally's. Check it out here

WAH Nails Pop-Up - this launched to the public yesterday and unfortunately I couldn't go to the blogger launch (sob). Open from now until 4th July I'd definitely recommend them for the best nail art (I had the Union Jack on mine for the Olympics!)

Tamara Ecclestone's beauty range - who would buy this?! Launched this week, it is called Show and has a crazy high price point. It's a no from me.

Scouse brow - why oh why is this trend continuing? There is a difference between Cara Delivigne and slugs above your eyes. Even Louise on Made in Chelsea this week seemed to be rocking a bit of scouse brow...I couldn't take my eyes off them!

Crazy coloured hair - spotted this week, who thinks this is a good look?

Let me know your thoughts, whether you agree/disagree, I'd love to hear them!

Good Things Total Wipe Out Cleansing Wipes

Another CEW review today. This time the Total Wipe Out cleansing wipes from Good Things. I am really quite lazy when it comes to taking my make-up off in the evenings so I'm a massive fan of face wipes.

In case you're unfamiliar with the brand, it is the creation of beauty writer and all-round industry expert, Alice Hart-Davis. She has created a range of gentle yet effective skincare and bodycare products. The wipes are the first of the range I've tried.

I thoroughly liked them. They are gentle to the skin which is great for my dry skin, but did take off my make-up in a few wipes. I hate it when you have to really drag the wipes over the skin to get everything off, as surely that's bad for your skin. With these, you don't need to do that at all. They are also quite thick which I like (another wipe bugbear of mine (didn't know I had so many!) is wipes which are like tissue paper).

They contain raspberry and cranberry extracts so have a great scent and they nourish your skin at the same time as cleansing.

All in all a really effective product, and one that smells great which is a bonus. Also love the name!

They have made the finalist round of the CEW awards this year and I can see why people voted for them.

Good Things Total Wipe Out are £3.49 for 25 wipes, check out more information here

Laura Mercier Souffle Body Creme Sampler

This is one of my Christmas Day purchases in the sale at Harrod's, and I'm only just coming to the end of it.

Inside you get four different body butters. They aren't really 'soufflés' as they aren't filled with air pockets like The Sanctuary body soufflé, these are more like body creams. They are thick so if you don't like that then you won't be a fan. I personally like a lot of moisturiser after a shower especially during the harsh winter months.

The four scents are Creme Brulee, Creme de Pistache, Fresh Fig and Almond Coconut Milk. I also bought the Creme Brulee candle, the review of which you'll find here

The biggest positive of these products is the smell. They are all simply gorgeous. It feels really luxurious to put something so amazingly scented onto your skin, and trust me people will ask what perfume you have on! Oh, it's my body moisturiser...

My favourite has to be the Almond Coconut Milk. I have a bit of a coconut obsession at the moment and I love the smell of almonds so this is like a decadent marzipan pot of yumminess which reminds you of holidays and that you have to resist tasting. DON'T!

Overall, this is a lovely set of four wonderful products. I couldn't rate it highly enough and I'm quite sad I'm at the end. This is a great gift for someone or just as a treat for yourself. Once you know which one is your fave, you can buy a great big vat of it to roll around in...or maybe that's just me. Check it out at SpaceNK here

Nails Inc Leather Effect

Hmmm I'm just not sure I can get on board with this. I've tried the Nails Inc Leather Effect polish on my fingers which I really didn't like, so this time I went for it on my toes. Apologies in advance for the toe pics!

It's a full coverage black with a slight have to look really closely for this (obviously nobody gets that near to my feet!). In their pack, Nails Inc gives you studs which would jazz this up a bit but I'm still not a fan.

So that I didn't have just black toes I used Nails Inc in Abbey Road to give myself sparkly tips!!

This jazzes it up a little bit but I have to say I'm still not a fan. I've tried, I've failed. Leather nails are not for me. Thankfully my feet aren't on display.

What's Hot, What's Not

This week's best and worst beauty news!!!

YSL Summer Collection - how gorgeous is this palette?! So pretty, and useable which is quite rare for a palette, but I think I'd wear all of these colours. The only downside is the price - £42. Better start saving now...

Caudalie Divine Legs - this silky oil is launching in May and instantly tans legs as well as giving them great moisture and a little shimmer. I'm all for anything that flatters my legs! Hopefully I'll be able to go without tights soon. This will be £26 available online.

Great Gatsby Glamour - so excited for the film to come out next month, and I love the classic glamour of the era. Flawless skin, groomed brows, classic eyes and lips, plus maybe even a beauty spot - lovely!

Cold, cold weather - sorry to be a bore and go on about the weather, but come on! It's April, it should be getting warmer, not still snowing. It's playing havoc with my skin, making it so dry, and my hair is so static when I brush it in the morning. Nightmare. Come on sun, you can do it...PMA! PMA!

No Female Solidarity - I know it's from the Daily Mail online this week and only to be expected but this is so harsh. Isn't Claudia Winkleman allowed to not be dolled up for once? I still think she's gorge! Come on girls, let's not be so mean.

Selfies - a new term to describe the trend celebs have of posting so-called 'natural' shots of themselves on Twitter or Instagram, obviously looking stunning and probably taking more than a few attempts to get that perfect 'natural' shot. Kelly Brook is the ultimate doesn't do the rest of us any good for our self-esteem

What do you think of this week's Hot and Not? Let me know if you agree or not.

Nails Inc Corrector Pen

I got this little beauty at the CEW evening a month or so ago. I'm a massive nail polish addict but I'm quite messy and I tend to try to tidy up the sides with my teeth which sometimes ends in disaster with most of the polish coming off too. I know, I know, it's not very glamorous or pleasant!

This isn't a new concept at all and you could always dip a Q-tip into nail polish remover and achieve the same result but I'm too lazy for that. Nails Inc have got it spot on with this chunky pen which is easy to manoeuvre.

The tip is nicely moulded into a flat side and a round side to get to all those pesky bits of nail varnish down the sides of the nails, underneath the nails and on your fingers (I tend to get it everywhere!).

As you may be able to see in the photo above, the pen does take on the colour of the nail polish but this doesn't affect how it works. You also get a couple of spares in the other end of the pen which I think is a lovely addition, and means the £10 price tag goes a lot further.

It's made my manicures a lot tidier! Get yours here.
