The CEW Awards

Last night it was the 'beauty oscars', the CEW Awards demonstration evening. I'm lucky enough to be a member through work. For those of you who don't know it, CEW (Cosmetic Executive Women) is the main beauty industry board in the UK. It's awards are one of the most sought-after as they give an official stamp of approval for a brand's product. So last night, all the brands who have been shortlisted were able to give their products to CEW members to try and then vote.

Needless to say it was a bit of a free for all, with most people having the same plan of heading for fragrances first, then prestige skincare, then onto the more mass market brands. You just had to grab what you could - a whole room full of beauty-crazed women means dignity kind of goes out the window!

(Apologies for the not very good pics - taken with my Blackberry)

It is hugely exciting checking out all the products when you get home. So many amazing classic and new beauty treats to discover and obviously there are a billion reviews to come! Brands who have been shortlisted include La Prairie, Nails Inc, Dr. Nick Lowe, Liz Earle and so many more!

All members will be voting over the next few weeks with the winners being announced at the end of April!

Laura Mercier Creme Brulee Candle

This was one of my Christmas sale purchases as I'm a huge scented candle fan and a Laura Mercier fan but have never tried a Laura Mercier scented candle. I plumped for the Creme Brulee one.

Once again, I wish we could have some kind of smell-o-vision on the Internet. Whilst they work on it, you'll just have to take my word for it that this candle is beautiful!

In a chocolate glass with a kind of snakeskin design, it looks the part as well. The design is quite neutral so it could fit in any room in any house so would be a great present for anyone!

Unsurprisingly, one of the main scents is vanilla so if you're not a fan of vanilla then this candle isn't for you. It also has caramel and sugar scents to really make your house smell like you've been baking. The only downside is it could make you quite hungry!

Normally £29 I got this half price in the Space NK sale. This limited-edition one is now sold out (fingers crossed they release it again next Christmas) but there are many other candles she has created which sound equally as smell-o-licious!

Burn time is 55 hours of pleasure!

NOTW: New CID Cosmetics in Summer Fruit Pudding

My nails this week are a lovely pinky red courtesy of New CID Cosmetics. It is the first time I've used their nail polish but I was really impressed.

It went on really easily, just the right consistency, but the thing I was really happy with was how quickly it dried. It would be great if you needed to do your nails quickly. The colour does remind you of the shade the sponge turns from the berries in a summer fruit pudding so CID are bang on with the name!

It's definitely more of a pink/orange red than a deep, dark red. However, the most exciting thing is that the brush lights up!! Yes that's right. I don't know why more people haven't done this. There are so many light up lip glosses nowadays, this is a brilliant idea, especially when even the days are a bit gloomy at the moment.

You don't have to have the light on, which is good as with most light up lip glosses you often don't get a choice. Simply press the button on the top of the lid and the light at the side brightens up your nails so you can see precisely where you are applying the polish.

This is part of a new range called i-polish. They do also have light up lipsticks and lip glosses but the nail polish is what excites me most. There are loads of shades, all with food names - Blueberry Muffin also looks a fab colour. Priced at £10 you can buy them here

What's Hot, What's Not

Haven't done this for a while so here we go...

LFW Tortoiseshell Nails - LOVE this! Seen at the House of Holland show at LFW AW13 it is created using three colours swirled together. Nail guru Sophy Robson came up with the idea to match the show's invitation (remember the brightly swirled colour for the SS13 show?). Not sure I'll ever be bothered to do it myself but it looks very cool!

MAC and Rihanna collaboration - I've been trying not to like this as it's just another celeb name to a make-up range (called RiRi Woo) but it looks really pretty and I have a soft spot for Ri Ri! There are going to be four collections in total, here is the image for the first one. Apart from the lippie (far too dark for me) I really like the look of it. Available in May to coincide with her concert dates.

Aromatherapy Associates Inner Strength bath and shower oil - I love AA for their super-high quality products and this new one will give 10% to a cancer charity as it was created whilst President of AA, Geraldine Howard, was being treated for cancer. A great product and an even greater cause, it launches online on 25th February.

OPI Oz the Great and Powerful collection - sorry to say but I find this collection really no green - it's the Emerald City! There are many more exciting nail polishes launching this Spring, think I'll give this one a miss. If you do like them, the range launches March for £11.50 each.

Peeling skin - I came back from Thailand with a lovely tan and have been moisturising and exfoliating religiously but I'm still peeling. First it was just the side of my nose (random!), then my forehead, now my stomach *sigh*

Wonky boobs - Holly Willough-booby looked slightly lop-sided at the Brits this week. I know we all have one slightly bigger than the other, and maybe it was the dress, but it wasn't a good look!

NOTW: Leighton Denny Get Your Cote!

Here are my nails done by the team at Fashion Monitor's Style Lounge on Sunday. Even though I think I'm pretty good at doing my own nails (have plenty of experience!) there is nothing quite like a professional doing it!

I've only tried Leighton Denny polishes once before (see it here) and I really wasn't sure about it. However I think it was purely that the colour wasn't for me.

This one is called Get Your Cote and is from the new SS13 Riviera range, available in stores from 1st March. This is the brightest colour in the range which is probably why I went for it, as I just can't seem to get on board with pastels.

Totally in love with it, it's the brightest pure blue you can imagine, and is certainly cheering up my holiday blues!

LFW Fashion Monitor Style Lounge

I've come back from a couple of weeks in Thailand just in time for London Fashion Week! Fashion Monitor treated people to their Style Lounge again, which launched last season. I popped along then, see my review here

They have a relaxing suite at The May Fair Hotel for the manic days of Fashion Week which was bustling with fashionistas and other weary bloggers. As you can see some top beauty names were involved - Bourjois, Guinot, Leighton Denny, Thalgo and Urban Retreat at Harrods!

As well as beauty of course there are some fashion peeps about! My favourite were the Aubrey range of handbags and purses, I could have stood there forever breathing in the leather smell!

I loved the Style Lounge last season as a great sanctuary during the hectic few LFW days. This time I plumped for a manicure as I haven't had one for ages and my cuticles are hideous! On offer was the new Riviera SS13 collection by Leighton Denny, here is the range...

Check out the blog tomorrow for a separate post on my nails and which colour I went for!

The goody bag is also fantastic! I especially can't wait to try the Guinot Hydrating Mask and the Bourjois blusher in my attempt to start using blusher.

Most exciting thing though was this...who remembers them from school days!?

Another amazing event by Fashion Monitor. They had a slightly bigger room this season compared to last which hopefully means it's going well for them too, and they will continue to offer the Style Lounge - fingers crossed! Definitely keep your eyes peeled for info of it again in six months' time!
