NOTW: Leighton Denny in Mine's a Rose

For my nails this week I decided to go for a pale pink by Leighton Denny which I received in my QVC press day goodie bag.

Called Mine's a Rose, it's a pretty pale pink which will be part of the new SS13 collection available on QVC. I've never used a Leighton Denny polish before (probably because they're £11 each!), and to be honest I'm not sure about it.

It took two coats to build up to the right colour and the first coat was a bit of a mess really. It didn't go on smoothly or easily and looked very patchy. The second coat helped this of course but the consistency just wasn't that great. It also took FOREVER to dry.

As I've said before I'm not a huge fan of nude nails (give me sparkly any time) but this kind of colour could be perfect for an understated nail. The colour is OK and the bottle is pretty, but I think it's the quality of the polish that's putting me off. I can't see this staying on for long...

What's Hot What's Not

Hot:

New Nails Inc collections - it's been all over blogs and Twitter this week. Nails Inc are launching their concrete, leather and feathers collections next month. The concrete and leather are effects which set as the special polishes dry, the feather is a new addition to their Bling It On range which uses a brush to achieve the look. As much as I think they might be a gimmick I definitely want to try them!

Pixi SS13 collection - really loving the look of Pixi's new collection for next year. Unveiled this week, the collection will be available from March and includes amazingly pretty shades. Definitely something you'll want come spring! Take a look...

Cracking Cow Christmas Cracker - there are so many beauty crackers this year but I came across the Cowshed one this week, and at just £10 it's a LOT more reasonable than others available at the moment. You get a Wild Cow Shower Gel and a Knackered Cow body lotion inside - perfect for a stocking filler or as a Secret Santa!

Not:

Mark Wright perfumes - the perma-tanned TOWIE 'star' has brought out perfume this week, not just for men but also 'pour femme'! He has also commented on The Daily Mail saying he didn't want to do anything tacky, so went for classy with these launches...*ahem*

Make-up overload - Jennifer Lopez usually looks so naturally beautiful, but this week she just went overboard (correction: her make-up artist did), it's too severe for her. Stick to being a natural-ish beauty Jenny!!!

Skin going mental - dry forehead, spotty chin, sensitive cheeks - either my hormones are acting up, the weather is taking its toll, or my skin is simply doomed, but a quick poll in my office shows that a lot of other women are experiencing tricky skin at the moment. Not. Cool.

Finally a quick treat for you! You're welcome...

NOTW: OPI Catch Me In Your Net

My sparkly obsession continues with this beauty from OPI. A shimmering bluey green, I think these 'mermaid nails' are be-au-tiful!!

You do need two coats of these (it's not a onesie), but you get an even, glistening, jewel-coloured feast for your eyes!!

There's really not much to say except it's gorgeous and go get it!

My Selfridges Lucky Bags

Christmas has come early!! I came home last night to my two Selfridges Lucky Bags I purchased last week. The excitement was too much! And here is what I got in mine...

I was a bit worried because I'd seen on Twitter how some people weren't happy with what they got and were returning them but I'm over the moon! Early Christmas for me indeed!

In my first bag I got:

  • Anatomicals Hand Cream
  • npw Nail Polish Remover Pads

QVC SS13 Press Day

Last Thursday eve I hot-footed it over to a swanky penthouse by Selfridges for the Spring/Summer 2013 press day for QVC - what a way to spend an evening! They had gorgeous jewellery and fashion, but obviously I was most interested in the beauty.

A beauty lover's heaven! Their new ranges include Benefit, Penhalligon's, Philosophy, Cowshed and Lulu's own beauty range (yes, Lulu!). Very exciting and it was great to have a look at all the beauty goodies on display! They also had the new Liz Earle range for next season which has a lot of pretty shades.

I also came across a beauty range I'd never heard of before - Emma Hardie. I think I'm a little slow to this but I'd never heard of her before. A celeb facialist, her range is all natural, beautiful ingredients that she sources herself, with the Cleansing Balm being the hero product. It sounds similar to 8 Hour Cream in that it can be used for everything!! Hoping to get my hands on some to review.

I have to say that although the new beauty products were exciting, just as exciting was the food! Incredible cupcakes, some shaped like Lulu Guinness handbags, some with Butler and Wilson skulls, and so yummy I must say!

10/10 for food, and for beauty goodies! Reviews to come soon.

What's Hot and What's Not

Hot:

Selfridges Lucky Bag - similar to the beauty box, the Selfridges Lucky Bag was launched this week and the inevitable frenzy happened! If they are still available I suggest you take a look here. You receive 5 hair and beauty products, a complete surprise, and 100 lucky people get a £150 Beauty Workshop voucher - fingers crossed!! Expecting mine to arrive today...

Girly nails - my pink and sparkly nails I did this week with China Glaze have received so many compliments! The ultimate in girly, they won't be for everyone but they have certainly cheered up a very cold and miserable week! In love.

Ainhoa CC Cream - only a matter of time before the next generation of BB creams arrives. Question - will the next be DD creams!? This one looks great though. Just launched, this Spanish brand has made its UK debut with a pop-up at St. Pancras if you happen to be passing through. This CC (colour correction) cream contains hylaronic acid (my fave ingredient EVER!) and is also SPF 25 which is fab. They have light and dark variations to suit most complexions. £31, check out all the info here

Not:

He-vage - men showing off more cleavage than us girls. Errrrrr NO! Even if you are as good looking as Ryan...

Vajazzles leading to rise in A&E admissions - I don't really get why girls bother with this, but it seems they do, and some are getting into tricky situations beautifying their foo-foo! Seriously though, it's wasting the NHS's time and money so don't do it or leave it to the experts if you really must!

More so-called 'beauty food' - I blogged a while ago about Beauty Candy which has come over from Asia and the unlikely belief that eating it could wipe away your wrinkles and make you look younger. Now, the fancy schmancy gym, bodyism, has launched Beauty Food for £70 - bargain! (sarcasm!)

Let me know what you think!

NOTW: Model's Own Disco Inferno

Pretty sparkles this week!

The Model's Own Mirrorball collection is AMAZING and this week I've gone for Disco Inferno, a mainly gold sparkle with little bits of green and brown.

The base is a deep brown from ARTDECO which makes the sparkles really stand out. Love!

I think with a deep red as a base colour this would make the perfect Christmas nail! Get the Mirrorball collection here

What's Hot What's Not

The best and worst beauty news from the past week!

Hot:

Free full-sized Ojon shampoo and conditioner - yesterday I swapped an empty bottle for shampoo for full-sized bottles of Ojon Damage Reverse (worth £48!) - absolutely amazing! I tried it last night and my hair does feel incredible. Fantastic event from Ojon - let's hope they do it again very soon!

Latest in Beauty YOU magazine advent calendar - yet another beauty advent calendar came out this week. As much as I love them it does make me sob a little as I want it but can't really justify to spend money on :( Mainly skincare with a few bits of make-up and a nail polish, it is £59.95 (but the products are worth over £210) - if you want it, get it quick from here

Nail Rock Frou Frou - SO cute!! Available from ASOS and River Island from this week, these cutest 3D nail stickers are so sweet I had to put them here. £5.99 a pack, I doubt they last very long but for a special occasion they would be great, and perfect for those who don't have a steady enough hand for full-on nail art. Available in Bears, Thanks Giving, Holiday and Fruit Burst.

Not:

Back acne - poor Cameron Diaz. Her make-up artist obviously tried to cover up her acne at the Gambit premiere, but the concealer just drew attention to it even more. Blotches of pale powder looked awful, and she obviously felt self-conscious about it as she was wearing a jacket at the after-party. It would have been better to have left it. Apart from that, she looked stunning!

Camel toe - did anyone else look at this pic and their eyes immediately go to 'there' and slightly water! She still looks stunning of course, but it does look slightly obscene (not to mention how much waxing was involved!!)

High maintenance hair - Lauren Conrad (girl crush!) admitted this week that it takes a whopping 7 hours to get her hair looking perfect for shoots and events. It's not about that! I'm really bad with my hair, I either leave it down or put it up in a pony, not very creative! As gorgeous as this looks, I really could not be bothered with wasting all that time on just my hair!!

Let me know what you think of this week's Hot and Not,

YSL Forever Youth Liberator Serum

Last week I told you about a serum I really love and would recommend here but now I need to tell you about a serum not to bother with.

I completely fell hook, line and sinker for the marketing spiel with this one. The YSL Forever Youth Liberator range was dubbed the most exciting beauty revolution for years...

So I excitedly bought some of the serum...and nothing much happened I have to say. Don't be fooled! It is a really nice serum, a bottle will last you a while, but the hype is all for nothing. It is good quality which you would expect from YSL and it does make your skin feel really nice, but don't expect any huge reduction in fine lines.

I don't really like doing negative reviews and most products I would recommend, but don't bother with this one. There are much better serums available at a fraction of the price of this one. This one is £60!

I'd be interested to hear from anyone else who has tried this - did you like it or not like me?

NOTW - Barry M Retro Blue

I'm really into blues at the moment. However, whilst going through all my many, many polishes, I realised I don't have that many (need to rectify that!). When I came across this retro Barry M shade, it was a no-brainer for this week's nails!

A bright, bold blue I'm absolutely loving it! I put two coats on but you could definitely get away with just the one, as it's so pigmented.

If you like blues as well, you can't go wrong with this one. I got it when Barry M were doing a special retro collection at Superdrug over the summer, however it is very similar to their Cobalt Blue polish in their regular range.

I'm thinking of adding a bit of sparkle later on in the week so will update you with that!!

What's Hot and What's Not

Here we go...this week's Hot and Not beauty news!!

Hot:

Monsoon Beauty - News of this range hit this week, and it's one that you wonder why hasn't it been launched earlier. I love Monsoon, the quality is always second to none and their designs are really individual. So I have high hopes for their beauty range. The first three collections are called Tree of Life, Passion and Eastern Secrets, all with Ayurvedic principles, made in England. Products start from £4, available in stores now and on their beauty website very soon!

Best a Mo Can Get Barbers - it's now November and that means one thing - Movember! This was huge when I was at uni, and seems to be going from strength to strength every year. Did you see the Mo on Big Ben?! The charity has partnered with Gilette to launch a Best a Mo Can Get Barbers just off Carnaby Street in London. Those growing their Mos can get free 'touch ups', plus there is a traditional barbers and a games room, and lots of special events will happen over the month so stay tuned. A great cause, send your men to this special barbers whilst it lasts!

Bobbi Brown Caviar and Oyster collection - available from this month at counters and online, as soon as I saw the pictures of these lip glosses they went straight on my Christmas list! Absolutely beautiful!! Shimmery, pearly goodies, the range includes a palette (£59), nail polish (£11), mascara (£20), and these lip glosses (£17) which are definitely my favourite.

Not:

Wanting Jerry Hall's hair - a survey came out this week stating that, after Kate Middleton, the hair most of us would like is Jerry Hall's. Errrrr really?! Let me know if you agree, but speaking to all my friends and colleagues we can't see it. To come second, after the likes of Cheryl Cole, is a bit unbelievable!

Hair all over my winter coat - now that the weather is definitely on the chilly side, I'm back to living in my winter coat. However I had forgotten what a hair magnet it is. I seem to be constantly picking my hairs off it - not really a good look! However it's not as bad as one woman I saw on the tube who lifted her arm to hold the railing and had a wad of hair under her arm!! It was like a hairy armpit on a coat - criiiiiinge!

Really long nails - I don't know why but this has been bothering me a lot this week. On Twitter, blogs, websites, I just don't like it when the nails are so long that they are beginning to curl. A pet peeve of mine, just having a whinge!!

Let me know what's been your Hot and Not of the week,

Cxx
