2012 Top Hot and Not!

It's the last Friday of the year so thought I do a What's Hot, What's Not of the year! Here we go...

Ciate Caviar, Sequin and Velvet manicure - always on the forefront of 'nail technology', 2012 has definitely been a good year for Ciate. I've only tried the caviar manicure (which doesn't last long but it looks so cool) but I would love to try the other two. Nail art has boomed this year, and these nifty products have taken it 3D!

Magazine freebies - this has been the year where we've been buying multiple copies of magazines just for the freebies!! From Benefit to Nails Inc to Ciate to The Body Shop and more.

Selfridges Lucky Bag and Beauty Box - these both created a huge stir throughout Twitter! I wasn't quick enough for the beauty box but got a lucky bag and was so happy with the contents! Definitely foresee more shops doing this next year.

Brad's Chanel ad - I think this one is pretty unanimous - absolutely awful, and I cringe every time I hear it. The world turns, and we turn with it....piss off!!

Snakeskin manicure - This news came out in July, only from America of course! For the bargain price of £150 you could coat your nails with real snakeskin. I think we'll stick to nail art and wraps this side of the pond!!

Collagen sweets and drinks - 2012 seems to be the year that these have boomed onto the market and I just don't think they can work. You need collagen to go into your skin, not your blood stream after having been digested.

Let me know what have been your 2012 highlights and lowlights

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas! Mine was very traditional - full of family, food and lots of booze!! I got so many treats, but I thought I'd share the beauty ones I'm very excited about:

The Beauticology gingerbread, chocolate chip and vanilla frosting set smell (as you may imagine) AMAZING!

I've wanted the Urban Decay palette for a while now. Many gorgeous shades I can't wait to try...

Finally the Clinique Chubby Sticks gift set - another one I can't wait to try and show you!!

What treats did you get?

My Fave Sparkly Nail Polishes!

It's Christmas time and my nails have been festively glittery all month! So what a perfect time to list my top sparkle nail polishes from this season:

1. Model's Own Mirrorball Collection - it's hard to pick one out of this five strong collection but my winner has to be Freak Out! Dark and light blue as well as pink and purple sparkles of various sizes and shapes - it is beautiful!! You have to dab it on rather than swipe like a lot of glitter polishes but the result it amazing. Get the full collection, or buy one which is only £5 here

2. Barry M Blue Glitter - only £2.99 this glitter is amazingly good quality! Two coats builds up to a brilliant blue which will dazzle and definitely get compliments! It also lasts really well, the only problem is getting it off. Check it out here

3. China Glaze Lorelei's Tiara - perfect for winter icy nails, this glitter is a striking silver with flecks of blue. You could get away with just one coat as it's quite thick (but not in a gloopy way!). In love! £3.95 here

4. Models' Own Hed Kandi Ibiza Mix - Model's Own seem to be the champions of glitter polishes at the moment. Before Mirrorball came out, their Hed Kandi collection had Ibiza Mix as their hero! It is a gorgeous combination of pinks, blues, oranges, violets, greens, everything you can imagine! Definitely not for wall flowers! Only £3.50 from here

5. OPI The Living Daylights - part of the Skyfall collection, this is uber-sparkly, with flecks of copper, gold, teal and silver. It looks great just on its own (it's another dabber rather than a swiper) or over a dark polish to make the colours stand out even more! It's currently £8.80 here

Let me know your favourite sparkly polishes!

Murad Christmas Gift Set - Hydration Sensation

Continuing my dry skin theme, here is another great bundle of treats. I recently went to a Murad blogger event where I got to meet the Doctor himself - what he doesn't know about skincare isn't worth knowing!

We were treated to a gift box specially launched for Christmas and because of my dry skin I decided on the Hydration Sensation one.

Inside you get a hydrating toner, plus a Hydra-Dynamic Ultimate Moisture cream for face and eyes.

(Ignore the wrapping paper in the background!)

I think my favourite product in this is the Hydrating Toner, a quick spritz and your skin is hydrated immediately. I do find it takes a while to sink into the skin but I'm talking minutes rather than ages (I'm just really impatient!). A combination of fruit extracts, witch hazel and vitamins calms, soothes and tightens pores ready to move onto the other products! The only downside is that you only get 15ml of it, but if you do like it you can buy 100ml separately - at £23 for 150ml it is reasonably priced too.

Next up are the Hydra-Dynamic moisturisers, one for the face and one for the eyes. Both of them are rich without being heavy. They moisturise really well but you can't feel them 'sitting' on the skin. Murad claim that they both lock in moisture for up to 8 hours. I never felt my skin drying throughout the day so I think that could be true! One downside - no SPF included in the face cream.

At £64 for a 50ml face cream, and £57 for a 15ml eye cream, these products are pricey and I have to say that I think there are just as good moisturisers available for less.

This Christmas set is £73.50, expensive but if you can afford it a great product for someone special in your life who deserves such a treat! You know you're going to get good quality ingredients crammed into each product by Dr. Murad!

Indeed Labs Hydraluron

I recently finished this and am so disappointed which just shows how great a product it is. From the same people who created Nanoblur and Snoxin, Hydraluron is a gorgeous serum which has been a life saver for my dry skin, especially with the change of seasons.

It is a clear gel, completely fragrance free, which sinks into the skin really fast. It contains hylaronic acid - my favourite skincare ingredient of all time! Simply apply morning and evening before your moisturiser. The result is hydrated, healthy and happy skin!

To read up more about the science that went into this tube of goodness as well as all the ingredients it contains please click here.

There isn't much more I can say about it except try it for yourself! If you have dry skin and need a moisture boost, give your skin a drink of these stuff!

£24.99 available from Boots here.

Christmas Blogger Event - #bbloggersxmas

This weekend I made my way to the Reebok Bar in Canary Wharf for a fun-filled afternoon courtesy of @iamlolastar and @kokosecrets - their blood, sweat and tears over this event was evident and very much appreciated!

I chat to so many fellow beauty bloggers on Twitter that it is always lovely to finally meet them and put a face to the name. That is essentially what this was - a fabulous networking event with amazing brands on board. I was pampered with an Aromatherapy Associates hand and arm massage with their Rose oil which smelt incredible!

Beautiful selection of bath oils!

I then moved along the pampering conveyor belt to have an OPI manicure! On offer were the polishes from the Germany collection - one which I have admired for a while but never had the chance to wear.

I'm still loving blue nails so I decided on Unfor-Greta-bly Blue - what do you think?

Beautiful isn't it? I'm in love! And this is only one coat!! Have a look at the full collection here

Many others lined up to be treated as well!

Check out the table completely full of the products in our goody bags...

I was practically squealing as I went through it! Treats from Lush, Lee Stafford, Bad Apple, Sleek Make UP, Xen Tan, INIKA and Guinot to name just a few.

Delicious treats on every table as well!

Overall I felt so spoilt!! A huge round of applause for the two organisers. This must have taken ridiculous amounts of organisation, and they did comment on having a few sleepless nights! I hope they feel it was all worth it because the event really was amazing.

Don't worry if you didn't get to come to this one...rumour has it the next one will be in March!

Thank you so much for inviting me. Fan-bloody-tastic!!!

Kelly Hoppen candle in Zen

This is something I was lucky enough to get in my QVC press day goody bag. I'm a HUGE fan of candles, especially around this time of year, and as soon as I smelt this in the goody bag on the train home I knew it was a good'un!

The interior designer did good with this! In a glass tumbler, the only downside is that is it quite small and so doesn't last as long as you'd like it to. But I do think it would make a great Christmas present if you're stuck for ideas. The simple design means it would look good in any room.

Not for the first time I'm wishing the internet had smell-o-vision! I find it so hard to describe smells. As the name suggests, zen is a subtle fragrance which won't overpower your room. It's quite musky and powdery, but really I can't describe the smell accurately, you'll just have to have a whiff yourself!

Available at QVC, at the moment they have a trio of them for £23.28 here

NOTW: Icy, Winter Nails

I had so much fun doing these!! And I think they look awesome, if I do say so myself.

I used a pale blue, OPI Greece Just Blue Me Away, as the base. It is quite thin and pale so I put three thin coats on to get a decent enough blue. Then I put white crackle over the top from Barry M for the ice! I've used crackle before, but I hadn't used the white one yet, so this was a good excuse.

Then to add even more wintery fun I used a sparkly top coat. It's as though Jack Frost has painted my nails!! Perfect for a freeeezing day like today.

What do you think?

Revlon Kissable Balm Stain in Crush

I was lucky enough to win this on Twitter a couple of months ago when Revlon launched these products! And it has very quickly become my favourite lippy. A perfect plum colour for this season.

Similar to the Clinique Chubby Sticks (which I have yet to try) this is so easy to apply, produces a rich colour immediately and gives your lips much needed moisture in this cold weather. A definite multi-tasker!

The thing I really adore about this product is the colour. Crush is the perfect plum colour which is bold enough to make a statement but isn't too in your face. You can build it up (I tend to put more in the centre of my lips) to achieve the look you want. I find it really suits my skintone and the blue tinge helps to make your teeth look whiter - winner!

There are seven different colours in the range and I'm very tempted to try more. I would like to see how the Chubby Sticks compare first though. The Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain range is £7.99 from Boots here.

Disco Duck Creme Brulee Lip Balm

The first product in my Selfridges Lucky Bag to be reviewed. This Disco Duck is the cutest thing by far!

Definitely something you want in your handbag or on your desk. A sparkly gold duck is sure to make you smile. It opens up to reveal a lip balm that smells amazing.

A creme brulee balm, it smells sweet and vanilla-ry! It is quite small so this won't last you a long time, and if you have long-ish nails be prepared to scoop it from under your nails afterwards, but I'm loving it at the moment. With the cold weather, a lip balm is essential and this just makes me smile. It would make a great stocking filler - from and it's only £3.50!

Quack quack!

My Beauty Xmas Wish List!

It's now December, time to focus on Christmas! Here are the beauty products top of my list this year:

Ciate Mini Mani Advent Calendar - something I wish I had to open today!! Being a nail polish addict this is perfect...just a shame it is quite pricey as that's the only thing that put me off buying it for myself. £38 from Selfridges.

Clinique Chubby Sticks - This special gift set called 'Whole Lotta Colour' includes five mini-sized chubby sticks. The beauty phenomenon which are the Chubby Sticks have been praised by so many people, I really really want to try them, and this gift set looks perfect!! £30 from Boots.

Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette - another thing that everyone raves about yet I'm still to try. I love my browns and taupes for eyes, and I really rate Urban Decay eyeshadows as they're so pigmented. Looking at the first Naked palette, and the new Naked Basics matte palette, I think Naked 2 is the one for me. £36 from Debenhams.

Cowshed Cracking Cow Cracker - a fab stocking filler or something for Secret Santa! How can you not love this? Cowshed products are wonderful and this includes a 30ml Wild Cow Shower Gel and a 30ml Knackered Cow Body Lotion. Plus it's only £10!!
Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser in Nude - a beauty essential for me, and I've never found a tinted moisturiser to beat it, so this is really just a top up for me. If you haven't tried it I really urge you to give it a go. With SPF 20 it is available in oil free, but as I have dry skin I opt for the regular formula. £33 from SpaceNK.
Trilogy Rosehip Antioxidant Oil - a great skincare product that again has been raved about by other bloggers and the press. Certified organic, this has won so many awards and is credited to giving Miranda Kerr her amazing skin. Another thing I really want to try this year! £28.50 for 45ml from Boots.
What is top of your list this year?
